Secondary School Students Journalism Education Workshop 2016

Last Sunday, 10 of our students participated in the “Secondary School Students Journalism Education Workshop 2016” co-organized by Journalism Education Foundation, EDB, and Department of Media and Communication of City University. The objectives of this annual event were to help secondary school students to gain insights into important concepts such as the functions of mass media, Freedom of Press and Journalistic Ethics.

This year, our students also got the opportunity to visit the Headquarter of TVB News Department and Run Run Shaw Creative Media Center of City University. The aim of these visitations was to give students exposure to the process of news production. The event was concluded by a ceremony to award certificates and souvenirs.

When we look at these Xaverians in the pictures, we may be beholding the faces of next generation journalists.

Form 6 Seminar 2016

The day for the release of HKDSE result is imminent. On the 7th of July, our school has put together a seminar day to prepare our F.6 students and their parents for the upcoming “big day”. The day-time session of the seminar was to prepare students for various possibilities of HKDSE results. They were informed of the multiple study pathways and numerous alternative options. They were also psychologically prepared for the possible ups and downs, and any potential surprises.

In the evening, a total of 182 parents of our F.6 boys attended the evening parent session. The participants were equipped with the knowledge to better support their sons on the “big day”. They were also given an opportunity to voice their concerns and worries.

The overall atmosphere of the whole-day event was positive and the responses from the participants were very good. Let’s cheer up our F.6 boys and give them all the support they need for a very emotionally challenging day on the 13th of July.

Water Rocket Competition

On July 7th July 2016, the Water Rocket Competition was held in the school playground as a post-examination activity for all the F. 2 boys. They first attended a lecture learning all the fundamental physics principles behind rocketry. Then they were put in groups of 4 to5 students. Each group of students had to design their own water rocket that would propel as far away from the ground as possible based on what they had learned.
