Second Milestone of SFXC70 Breakthrough Activity: MacLehose Trail Challenge

On February 24, we completed the second section of our Breakthrough Activity: MacLehose Trail Challenge. Eight students from Forms 1 to 5, along with four teachers and three professional trainers, embarked on this journey. We were especially honored to have Vice-Principal Mr. Ching and our alumnus Mr. Wong, the School Orienteering Team coach, join us.

The team covered an impressive distance of over 17 kilometers in six hours, conquering both Lion Rock and Beacon Hill with an elevation gain exceeding 450 meters. Building on their previous experience, the students demonstrated good improvement in both performance and teamwork.

A particularly meaningful addition to our journey was the Piety Recess Prayer Liturgy at St. Raphael’s Catholic Cemetery in Cheung Sha Wan. Led by our Marist Brothers Brother John and Brother Chin, we paid our respects at the Marist graveyard, where the Brothers who served and passed away in Hong Kong rest in peace. This solemn moment reminded us of their selfless dedication and reinforced our school’s enduring spirit: Once a Xaverian, always a Xaverian. Their legacy continues to inspire us to live lives of service and commitment to others.

First Milestone of SFXC70 Breakthrough Activity: MacLehose Trail Challenge

The MacLehose Trail Challenge, a 70-km journey, is one of our 70th anniversary celebratory events, aimed at strengthening brotherhood and resilience among our Xaverian members.

To kick things off, nine Forms 1 to 5 students and three teachers, accompanied by professional trainers, demonstrated remarkable perseverance as they hiked from morning until night on February 15, covering over 20 km in a journey that lasted 9 hours. Despite the tough and tiring trail, what made us most proud was witnessing our boys support one another every step of the way—whether by sharing water, offering words of encouragement, or simply walking together. Brotherhood was truly in action.

This 20-km trek is just the beginning—we still have three more sections of the trail to complete. We eagerly look forward to taking on new challenges together, growing stronger as a team. More importantly, we hope this journey inspires our fellow Xaverians to believe that with peer support, nothing is impossible.

Gatekeepers Training Camp

In December, our team of school Gatekeepers attended a two-day training camp focused on disabilities and mental health.

The camp offered an immersive experience, featuring workshops led by experts and heartfelt personal stories shared by individuals living with disabilities. Through these sessions, Gatekeepers gained valuable insights into the daily challenges faced by people with disabilities, fostering a deeper understanding and empathy.

A particularly impactful activity involved playing basketball in wheelchairs, allowing participants to experience the physical and coordination challenges of navigating life from a wheelchair’s perspective.

Beyond these learning opportunities, the camp also included team-building exercises that strengthened camaraderie and trust among the Gatekeepers.

This enriching experience has empowered our Gatekeepers to better serve as compassionate advocates and allies for students navigating mental health and disability challenges within our school community.
