Listen to Our Heroes!

On 18th March 2019, Mr. Ching gave us a message about adopting a positive outlook to life. He used quotes from various celebrities or heroes to encourage us.

To those who felt disappointed about their failures and poor performances, Mr. Ching quoted NBA legend, Michael Jordan’s words, “I've missed more than 9000 shots in my career. I've lost almost 300 games. 26 times, I've been trusted to take the game winning shot and missed. I've failed over and over and over again in my life. And that is why I succeed.”

To those who constantly stayed in their comfort zone and saw no need to improve themselves, Mr. Ching quoted words from two brightest stars in the current world of soccer. Cristiano Ronaldo once said, “Talent without working hard is nothing.” Another star footballer, Lionel Messi, told the world, “The day you think there is no improvements to be made is a sad one for any player.”

To those who lost focus, Mr. Ching quoted from our famous alumnus and world-renowned martial artist, Bruce Lee, “I fear not the man who has practiced 10,000 kicks once, but I fear the man who has practiced one kick 10,000 times.”

To those who thought they had lost the fight even at the starting line, Mr. Ching encouraged them with NBA star, LeBron James’ words, “My father wasn't around when I was a kid, and I used to always say, 'Why me? Why don't I have a father? Why isn't he around? Why did he leave my mother?' But as I got older I looked deeper and thought, 'I don't know what my father was going through, but if he was around all the time, would I be who I am today?' Or in legendary psychologist, Carl Jung’s words, “I am not what happened to me, I am what I choose to become.”

Lastly, Mr. Ching used the founder of Marist Brother, St. Marcellin Champagnat’s Marist golden rule, to encourage all teachers who felt demotivated by students with low motivation, “To raise children properly, we must love them and love them equally.”

Let’s be encouraged by Mr. Ching’s message and the words of our heroes. Be positive and beat the inner pessimist!
